ACHIEVEMENT OF BSRTI


  • Mulberry varieties (59) and silkworm races (85) are maintained in the Germplasm Bank of BSRTI.
  • Nine high yielding (30-40mt/ha/annum) mulberry varieties (BM-1 to BM-9) have been developed. Another two varieties of mulberry is under trial and awaiting for release.
  • Five varieties (BM-1 to BM-5) have been released in the field and the rest four varieties are waiting for release.
  • Selection of draught resistant and water logging mulberry varieties.
  • Development of appropriate technology for mulberry.
  • Control of Fungal and Nematode diseases and pests in mulberry.
  • Selection of proper harvest time for mulberry leaves and its preservation.
  • Nutritionally rich mulberry varieties were identified and recommended for improvement of cocoon production.
  • Enrichment of mulberry leaves with supplementation of different nutrients has been formulated for better cocoon production.
  • Improvement of mulberry leaves with foliar application of urea and micronutrients for quality cocoon production.
  • 28 high yielding (40-70kg cocoon/100dfls) silkworm breed/hybrids have been developed.
  • 25 have been released in the field and the rest are under trial.

  • Fabrication of low cost improved cottage reeling machine with re-reeling (Double and single basin).
  • Design and development of improved metallic Ghai reeling machine for fine and coarse yarn reeling.
  • Design and development of improved metallic Thai reeling machine.
  • Fabrication of improved metallic pedal Charka and pedal cum motorized Charka for quality spun silk spinning.
  • Design and development of multi-fuel low cost cocoon dryer and three pan cooking system.
  • Fabrication of low cost improved Approuvettee for single cocoon reeling.
  • Fabrication of low cost Measuring meter for measuring single cocoon filament length to determine the denier.
  • Fabrication of low cost Denier Scale.
  • Fabrication of low cost Booking machine.
  • 568 persons trained so far in long term and 2302 persons in short term courses.
